Ten Questions to Ask Any Window or Door Installer
A short checklist to take into any in-home appointment so you can compare offers on the same terms.
- Always get the offer in writing, including any incentive as a separate line.
- Ask who does the installation — employees or subcontractors — and who warranties the work.
- Never feel pressured to sign at the appointment.
Before the appointment
Decide which openings matter most, and whether doors are in scope. Knowing your own priorities keeps the conversation on your terms rather than the sales script.
The ten questions
1. Are you licensed and insured for work in my state, and can I see the documentation?
2. Who physically installs — your own crews or subcontractors?
3. What is warrantied on the product, and what is warrantied on the installation?
4. What exactly is included: removal, haul-away, permits, trim and finishing?
5. Is any recycling or trade-in incentive shown as a separate line on the quote?
6. What is the price with the incentive and without it?
7. What products are you quoting, and is there a mid-range option to compare?
8. How long will the work take, and when could it start?
9. What deposit is required, and what are the payment stages?
10. How long does this quote stay valid?
Pressure is a red flag
A price that only exists if you sign tonight is a sales tactic, not a discount. A serious installer will leave a written quote and let you think about it.
Checking eligibility through this program carries no obligation to purchase, and neither should any appointment.
Compare like for like
If you gather more than one offer, line up the scope first: the same openings, similar product tiers, the same inclusions. Otherwise you are comparing two different projects, not two prices.
